吉迪恩曼特尔龙（属名：Gideonmantellia）是一属基础鸟脚类恐龙，化石来自西班牙特鲁埃尔省加尔瓦的早白垩世（巴列姆阶）卡马利亚斯组（英语：Camarillas Formation），其下仅包括单一物种阿氏吉迪恩曼特尔龙（Gideonmantellia amosanjuanae）。[1]

发现与命名

1982年，业余古生物学家何塞·马里亚·埃雷罗·马乔（José María Herrero Marzo）和他的儿子杰苏斯（Jesús）在加尔瓦（英语：Galve, Teruel）附近Poyales Barranco Canales地区的一个壤土坑中发现一只小型真鸟脚类的残骸。1987年，何塞·路易斯·桑斯（英语：José Luis Sanz）叙述了其中的左股骨和髂骨，并将其归类于 福氏棱齿龙。[2]1995年，何塞·伊格纳西奥·瑞兹-奥梅尼亚卡（José Ignacio Ruiz-Omeñaca）意识到标本代表了一个独立的分类单元，[3]并在1994年和1995年对这些骨骼进行进一步准备工作。从1996年开始，奥梅尼亚卡继续他的研究并将其作为自己论文的一部分。2001年，他发表了一篇更详细、更完整的叙述，[4]2004年，他再次重申新物种的发现。[5]2006年，他在博士论文中将该物种命名为阿氏吉迪恩曼特尔龙；作为一个论文名（nomen ex dissertatione），该名称当时仍然无效。[6]

2012年，瑞兹-奥梅尼亚卡、何塞·伊格纳西奥·卡努多（José Ignacio Canudo）、格罗瑞亚·昆卡·贝斯科斯（Gloria Cuenca Bescós）、佩内洛普·克鲁扎多·卡巴莱罗（Penélope Cruzado Caballero）、何塞·曼努埃尔·加斯卡（José Manuel Gasca）和米格尔·莫雷诺·阿赞扎（Miguel Moreno Azanza）对模式种阿氏吉迪恩曼特尔龙（Gideonmantellia amosanuane）进行有效命名和重新叙述。属名纪念棱齿龙的第一个叙述者吉迪恩·曼特尔（Gideon Mantell）；种名纪念已故古生物学家奥尔加·玛利亚·阿莫·圣胡安（Olga María Amo Sanjuán），他研究了白垩纪的加尔瓦动物群。[1]

正模标本MPG-PBCH发现于卡马利亚斯组（英语：Camarillas Formation）的河流沉积物中，可追溯至巴列姆阶早期，由一个未成年个体的部分骨骼组成，缺少颅骨，包括背部、臀部和尾部的33节椎骨、21个神经弓碎片、6个人字骨、肋骨碎片、骨化肌腱、骨盆左部和两条后肢。该标本是加尔瓦古生物博物馆（英语：Museo Paleontológico de Galve）收藏品的一部分，陈列在加尔瓦市政厅古生物馆（palaeontological hall of the townhall of Galve）。

种系发生学

该分类群在1995年和2001年分别归类于棱齿龙科。今天，它被认为是一个反常的并系群，并在2012年置于鸟脚类中相对基础的位置。近期Madzia等人在2017年的一项研究中叙述了布里安龙，发现是吉迪恩曼特尔龙最原始的鸟脚类。演化树如下所示：[7]
