Kebiasaannya, Perang Pasifik dikatakan bermula pada 7/8 Disember 1941, ketika mana Jepunmenakluk Thailand dan menyerang kawasan jajahan British iaitu Tanah Melayu, Singapura dan Hong Kong, serta pengkalan-penglakan tentera Amerika Syarikat di Hawaii dan Filipina.
