The full-rigged ship collided with the full-rigged ship Thirlmere ( United Kingdom ) and sank in the Atlantic Ocean with the loss of seventeen of her crew. Andrew Johnson was on a voyage from Iquique , Peru to Hamburg , Germany .[ 12]
