San Pedro de Matamá é unha parroquia do concello de Vigo. Segundo o IGE,[2] en 2022 tiña 3.659 habitantes (1.757 homes e 1.902 mulleres). Limita coas parroquias de Beade, Castrelos, Coia, Comesaña e Valadares e pertence ó arciprestado de Vigo-Santo André. Ten 42 entidades de poboación.

Toponimia

O topónimo Matamá é un fitónimo derivado de MATTA (de orixe prerromana) MALA (de orixe latina), referido a un terreo de pouca calidade ou difícil de traballar.[3]

Xentilicio

O seu xentilicio é matamanexo[4].

Patrimonio

Igrexa parroquial.

Conta cun importante patrimonio arqueolóxico con restos da Idade de Bronce. Posúe mostras de arte rupestre no Monte Fabal, no barrio de Mó, en Gáspara, nas Tomadas e nos Sobreiros. Ademais, Matamá posúe dous poboados castrexos.

A igrexa parroquial de San Pedro é de estilo neoclásico e foi construída a finais do século XVIII. Na zona abundan as fontes e os lavadoiros e, nos barrios de Balsa e das Carneiras, hai varios muíños de auga. O cemiterio alberga o único cruceiro de Matamá, construído no 1691.

Na Zona Franca está situada a fábrica de PSA-Citroën.
