1979年の日本ハムファイターズ（1979ねんのにっぽんハムファイターズ）では、1979年の日本ハムファイターズの動向をまとめる。

このシーズンの日本ハムファイターズは、大沢啓二監督の4年目のシーズンである。

概要

前年11年ぶりのAクラス入りを果たしたチームだが、この年は高代延博とサム・ユーイング以外目立った戦力補強はなく勝率5割入りを不安視された。しかし、前期は4月に首位の近鉄に食らいつくなど健闘して3位で終了した。後期はロッテに抜かれて4位で終了するが、終わってみれば2年連続のAクラスと1972年以来の勝率5割となった。チーム5割復帰の原動力となった投手陣は前年不振の高橋直樹が20勝をあげる活躍を見せ、ベテラン高橋一三をはじめ佐伯和司・間柴茂有・杉山知隆に加えてこの年先発入りした宇田東植が規定投球回に到達したほか、同じくベテランの村上雅則もリリーフで健闘し、防御率は近鉄と阪急に次ぐ3位につける。打撃陣では移籍2年目の柏原純一が前年に引き続いて4番を打ち、富田勝・島田誠の俊足コンビも健在だった。また古屋英夫が三塁のポジションを不動にしたほか、高代も遊撃手で堅実な守りを見せるなど若手が活躍し、185盗塁は1位だった。が、前年本塁打王のボビー・ミッチェルが成績を落としたほか、30本塁打以上を期待されたユーイングが15本塁打に終わるなど誤算が相次ぎ、近鉄と阪急のマッチレースに割って入れず、チームは両球団に大きく水をあけられた。
