Il Western Leader è stato un quotidiano locale di Auckland, in Nuova Zelanda. Era di proprietà della società di comunicazione Stuff Ltd. Ha cessato l'attività il 31 luglio 2025.[1]

Storia

Fu fondato nel 1963[2] e veniva pubblicato tre volte alla settimana. Il giornale aveva sede presso il John Henry Centre in Pioneer Street a Henderson e nel 2013 raggiunse una tiratura di 77.950 copie, con un aumento di 11.000 rispetto al 2010.[3]

Nel 2019 la giornalista Torika Tokalau ha vinto il premio «Giornalista locale dell’anno» ai Voyager Media Awards 2019.[4][5]

All’inizio di luglio 2025, Stuff ha confermato che avrebbe chiuso il Western Leader e altri 14 giornali locali dell’Isola del Nord entro il 31 luglio.[1]
