ネパールの国歌は「国歌」(राष्ट्रिय गान (IAST: rāṣṭriya gān))と呼ばれる。2006年に廃止された旧国歌に代わり、2007年に新しく制定された。作詞は詩人であるビャクル・マイラ （ब्याकुल माइला、本名プラディープ・クマール・ライ(प्रदीपकुमार राई)）。作曲はアンバル・グルン（अम्बर गुरुङ्ग）。

ネパールでは、歌の題名の代わりに歌詞の出だしの数語を呼びならわす習慣から[1]、Sayaun Thunga Phulka Hami（सयौं थुँगा फूलका हामी）あるいはSayaun Thunga Phulka（सयौं थुँगा फूलका）などとも呼ばれる。

新国歌制定の経緯

2006年5月19日、ネパール下院の満場一致で旧国歌の使用を停止した後、11月30日に国歌選択作業団が、国を超えて応募された1272の作品の中から、詩人のビャクル・マイラが制作した詞を選出。内閣は2007年4月20日これを国歌の歌詞として正式に採用した[2]。同年8月3日、内閣はアンバル・グルン（3曲）、ネパール警察および国軍（各1曲）、作曲家ニュー・バジュラーチャーリヤ（1曲）が作曲した6曲の候補の中からグルンによる曲のひとつを採用し国歌として制定、国家開発委員会の会議場にて発表した[3][4]。

新国歌は簡潔に表現され、ネパールの主権・団結・勇敢さ・誇り・景観・発展・平和・文化と自然の多様性などを称賛したネパール固有のジャウレ形式の民謡調（6/8拍子）[5]のものとなっている。歌詞は計8行からなっており、1行目と2行目、3行目と4行目、5行目と6行目、7行目と8行目がそれぞれ脚韻を踏んでいる。

旧国歌

ネパールの国王と国に対する敬意を示した旧国歌は「スリマーン・ガンビール」（श्रीमान् गम्भीर (śrīmān gambhīr)）と呼ばれ、1962年に採用された。 軍楽隊長Bakhat Bahadur Budhapirthi（बखतबहादुर बुढापिर्थि）[6]が1899年に作曲した曲に、Chakra Pani Chalise（चक्रपाणि चालिसे）が1924年に詞をつけたものだった（後に一部改変）。
