O Museo Numismático do Banco Central de Chile é un museo situado en Santiago de Chile e dedicado a amosar a historia das moedas e dos billetes chilenos e, con carácter xeral, doutros países.

O museo ten a súa sede no edificio do Banco Central de Chile.[1] O seu director é José Luis Ayala Saldivia.[2]​

O Museo Numismático do Banco Central de Chile inaugurouse o 18 de maio de 2012.[1]​

O seu obxectivo principal é a posta ao dispor do público dunha mostra do patrimonio numismático do Banco Central de Chile, como base para unha visión cronolóxica e iconográfica da historia económica e política do país.[3]

O edificio

O edificio que alberga tanto o Banco Central de Chile como o Museo Numismático foi inaugurado en 1928, tres anos despois da fundación do propio banco.

O edificio fai esquina entre as rúas Morandé e Agustinas, no barrio Cívico de Santiago. O deseño orixinal é do arquitecto Alberto Cruz Montt, aínda que na década de 1940 o edificio sufriu unha importante ampliación a cargo do arquitecto Josué Smith, respectando no posible o deseño orixinal.[4]

A colección

Exposición de moedas da época colonial.

A exposición divídese en dúas salas, cunha superficie en total de 180 m²:

  • A primeira corresponde ás antigas caixas para atención ao público, onde actualmente se amosa a familia de billetes en circulación en Chile e diversos obxectos relacionados coa actividade do Banco Central. Tamén se levan a cabo aí actividades para os cativos relacionadas co deseño e a produción dos billetes.[5]
  • A segunda corresponde a unha antiga bóveda construída polo banco nos anos 1940 e cuxa porta pesa dúas toneladas, onde se exhibe a colección histórica de moedas e billetes.[1] A peza máis escasa e valiosa da colección é un exemplar do coñecido como "peso de Coquimbo", cuñado en 1828 na Casa da Moeda de Coquimbo.[6][7]

Dentro da súa exposición atópanse 10 lingotes de ouro de 13 quilogramos cada un.[8] Tamén se presentan aproximadamente 1.500 pezas, entre billetes e moedas: arredor de 300 moedas de ouro, prata e outros metais emitidas a partir de 1749, así como 150 billetes emitidos en Chile e máis dun milleiro de máis de 160 países do mundo.[2]
