O Museo Filatélico e Numismático da Cidade do Vaticano é a denominación dunha das coleccións dos Museos Vaticanos, constituída coa súa configuración actual en 2007. O museo recolle todas as moedas e os selos emitidos pola Cidade do Vaticano desde o momento da súa fundación como Estado en 1929, ademais doutras pezas correspondente aos anteriores Estados Pontificios.[1][2][3]

Historia

O Museo Filatélico e Numismático comezou na década de 1930 como unha das coleccións dos Museos Vaticanos, nunhas salas próximas á carecterística escaleira helicoidal. Aquela exposición inicial foi inaugurada o 22 de outubro de 1936 e alí permaneceu ata o 1 de outubro de 1987, cando se mudou a unhas instalacións moito máis amplas na Torre Borgia, compostas por catro salas cunha superficie total de 250 metros cadrados.[2][3]

En 1990, o Museo Filatélico e Numismático trasladouse novamente, esta vez a unha única sala, de 540 m2, no edificio da estación de ferrocarril do Vaticano.[3]

O 25 de setembro de 2007, a colección filatélica e numismática retornou á súa localización orixinal nos Museos Vaticanos, o que facilita moito a súa visita, ao compartir a sede co resto das coleccións.[2][4] De feito, o día da súa inauguración os visitantes do Museo Filatélico e Numismático chegaron a 21.000.[3]

Sección de Filatelia

Esta sección abrangue todas as emisións de selos postais organizadas segundo o período de pontificado, desde Pío XII ata o papa Francisco. Ademais, expóñense outros obxectos como tarxetas postais e aerogramas, e numerosos exemplares das emisións filatélicas do Estado Pontificio (1852-1870), con selos novos, anulados e franqueados.[2][5]

Forman parte tamén desta sección outros obxectos como cilindros, placas e outros materiais tipográficos utilizados para a impresión dos selos, así como esbozos e proxectos dalgúns dos selos expostos nas vitrinas do museo.[2]

Sección de Numismática

As vitrinas e os expositores albergan as emisións numismáticas vaticanas desde 1929 (en liras vaticanas ata 2001 e en euros a partir desa data), tanto as conmemorativas como as de curso legal, así como medallas e moedas anteriores correspondentes ao Estado Pontificio.[2]
