1956ko Frantziako Tourra Itzuli Handi honen 43. edizioa izan zen. 1956ko ekainak 5 eta 28 bitartean ospatu zen. 4498 kilometroko ibilbidea egin zen 22 etapatan banatuta, horietatik laugarrena bi sektoretan banatu zelarik.

120 txirrindularik parte hartu zuten 10 txirrindulariko 12 talderen artean banatuta, horietatik 88k amaitu zutelarik proba, arlo honetan Italiako talde nazionala nabarmendu zelarik, proba bere txirrindulari guztiekin amaitzea lortu zuena.
