2008-09 Süper Lig, Süper Lig'in 51. sezonudur. 2007-08 sezonunda 1. Lig'de şampiyon olan Kocaelispor ile 2. olan Antalyaspor ve 4. olan Eskişehirspor (playoff maçları sonucu) ligin yeni takımları oldu. Sezon sonunda 71 puan toplayan Beşiktaş, 13. Süper Lig şampiyonluğunu kazandı. Beşiktaş ile lig ikincisi Sivasspor UEFA Şampiyonlar Ligi'ne katılmaya hak kazandı. Sezonu sırasıyla 3., 4. ve 5. olarak bitiren Trabzonspor, Fenerbahçe ile Galatasaray UEFA Avrupa Ligi'ne katılmaya hak kazandı.

Sezonu son üç sırada bitiren Konyaspor, Kocaelispor ve önceki sezon Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ adıyla mücadele edip bu sezon adını değiştiren Hacettepe 1. Lig'e düştüler.[1]

Fair Play Ligi

Turkcell Fair Play Ligi'nde, Süper Lig'de mücadele eden takımlar aldıkları sarı kart, kırmızı kart, saha kapatma, seyircisiz oynama ve hak mahrumiyeti cezaları karşılığında belirli ceza puanları alır ve en az puan alan takımın üst sıraya yerleşeceği değerlendirmenin sonuçları her hafta oynanan maçlar sonrasında güncellenir. Süper Lig'de mücadele eden ve sezon boyunca en az ceza puanı alarak Turkcell Fair Play Ligi ödülünü kazanan en centilmen takım 500 bin dolar, en centilmen ikinci takım 300 bin dolar, en centilmen üçüncü takım ise 200 bin dolar ile ödüllendirilecektir. En centilmen takım, ayrıca bir sonraki sezonun maçlarına Fair Play logolu formalarla çıkacak.
