Secret Love (sang fra 1953)

«Secret Love» er en amerikansk populærmusikksang med melodi av Sammy Fain og tekst av Paul Francis Webster. Dens første fremførelse var med Doris Day i filmen Calamity Jane.[1] Day spilte også inn den best-selgende versjonen på plate. Den nådde førsteplassen både på Billboard- og Cash Box-listene i 1954 og vant Oscar for beste sang.

Innspillingen ble gjort 5. august 1953.[2] Den ble utgitt av Columbia Records med katalognummer 40108.[3]

Coverversjoner

Den kvinnelige gruppen The Chiffons fra The Bronx spilte inn en Motownesque versjon for Bright Tunes i 1965, men den ble ikke utgitt før i 1969 på B.T. Puppy Records og i utlandet på forskjellige plateetiketter i 1970.

Freddy Fender spilte inn «Secret Love». Den ble utgitt på hans album La musica de Baldemar Huerta i 2002. Hans tospråklige versjon ble utgitt på singlen ABC-Dot Records 17585 i september 1975. Produsent var Huey P. Meaux. Den var hentet fra albumet Are Yor Ready for Freddie?. Sangen ble en nummer én-hit på Billboard Hot Country Singles-listen og en nummer 20-hit på Billboard Hot 100-listen. Feders versjon var ikke første gang countrypublikumet hadde hørt sangen. Slim Whitman hadde en større hit med sangen i 1954.

Connie Francis spilte inn sangen 27. april 1962 i RCA Italiana Studios i Roma. Den ble utgitt på hennes album Connie Francis Sings Award Winning Motion Picture Hits. Originalversjonen fra 1962 med et arrangement av Geoff Lowe var kun tilgjengelig i Australia (MGM Records S027592) og New Zealand (MGM Records MCS 5017). Alle andre utgivelser av det albumet verden over hadde med en versjon med en annen orkestrering, innspilt i april 1963 med et arrangement av Don Costa.

José Hoebee har også gjort en coverversjon. Den ble utgitt på singlen Carrere 221.011 Produsent var Pim Koopman. Sangen kom på den nederlandske singlelisten 25. september 1982. Den lå på listen i fem uker og som best på fjortendeplass i én uke.[4]

Spike Jones gjorde en versjon av sangen i stilen til et kubansk mamboband fra 1950-årene.

Den britiske sangeren Kathy Kirby spilte inn en glad versjon av sangen i 1963. Den ble utgitt på singlen Decca F.11759.[5] Musikalsk leder var Charles Blackwell. Produsent var Peter Sullivan.

k.d. lang gjorde en coverversjon av sangen til å bli spilt under rulleteksten på slutten av dokumentarfilmen The Celluloid Closet (1995). Sangen blir også vist i et klipp fra den originale Calamity Jane-filmen med Doris Day i tittelrollen.

Lord Tanamo gjorde en liveversjon av «Secret Love» inntil den ble spilt inn på plate av Tommy McCook i 1997. Siden da har The Allstonians fremført en coverversjon av den.

Cerys Matthews har spilt inn en coverversjon. Den ble utgitt på et veldedighetsalbum for Children's Hospice, Over the Rainbow.

George Michael gjorde en coverversjon. Den ble utgitt på hans album Songs from the Last Century i 1994.

The Moonglows spilte inn en R&B-versjon på plate for Chance Records i januar 1954. Den ble utgitt i februar samme år.

Mandy Moore spilte inn en coverversjon på soundtracket til filmen Mona Lisa Smile. Doris Days versjon ble brukt i selve filmen.[6]

John Serry sr. arrangerte og spilte inn denne komposisjonen med sitt ensemble. Den ble utgitt på albumet Squeeze Play (Dot Records DLP-3024) i 1956.

Allan Sherman har en munter parodi kalt «Secret Code» på sin LP My Name Is Alan fra 1965.

Soulsangeren Billy Stewart nådde Billboard Top 30-listen med sin ville versjon.

Norsk versjon

Fredrik Friis har skrevet en norsk tekst. Den norske tittelen er «En vakker drøm».
