Peter Grünberg (18. mai 1939–april 2018)[1] var ein tysk fysikar. Han fekk Nobelprisen i fysikk for 2007 saman med Albert Fert for arbeidet sitt med nanoteknologi. Grünberg oppdaga i 1988 GMR-effekten, som på 1990-talet drastisk auka lagringskapasiteten på harddiskaar. Alle moderne datamaskinar bygger på denne teknologien.

Grünberg studerte i Frankfurt og Darmstadt, der han tok doktorgraden i 1969 under Stefan Hüfner. Han var tre år ved Carleton-universitetet i Canada. Frå 1972 arbeidde han ved Forschungszentrum Jülich. I 1984 vart han Privatdozent og i 1992 professor ved universitetet i Köln. Han gjekk av med pensjon i 2004, og var sidan gjesteforskar ved Forschungszentrum Jülich.

I 1998 fekk Grünberg presidanten sin framtidspris for arbeidet sitt med GRM-effekten, og i 2006 vart han utnemnd til «årets europeiske oppfinnar» i kategorien universitet og forsking av Europakommisjonen. I 2007 fekk han Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschafts Stern-Gerlach-medalje og seinare same år Wolfprisen. 19. april 2007 fekk han Japan-prisen saman med Albert Fert; prisutdelinga skjedde i nærvær av det japanske keiserparet.
