Trama

Venuto a mancare il candidato numero uno dei democratici per la presidenza degli Stati Uniti, il "partito dell'Asinello" ha bisogno di un nuovo volto da proporre come possibile inquilino della Casa Bianca. Viene scelto Mays Gilliam, un attivista e politicante di colore che proviene dai sobborghi di Washington e che non sa di essere stato scelto con l'unico scopo perdere la sfida, magari attirando a sé le minoranze etniche. Come suo vice Mays sceglie il fratello maggiore Mitch, un procuratore di cauzioni, e con lui dà vita a una divertente campagna elettorale che lo porterà a lottare fino all'ultimo con il candidato repubblicano nonché vicepresidente da otto anni, Brian Lewis.

Produzione

Chris Rock ha dichiarato in un'intervista di aver preso l'ispirazione per il film dalle elezioni del 1984, quando il candidato democratico Walter Mondale scelse Geraldine Ferraro - una donna - come sua vice. I democratici in quelle elezioni sapevano di non avere molte chance contro il candidato repubblicano Ronald Reagan, ma la proposta della Ferraro come vicepresidente avvicinò molte donne alla politica e questo, si dice, contribuì all'elezione di Bill Clinton del 1992.
