Reflektivisme

Reflektivisme adalah istilah payung dalam teori hubungan internasional untuk menyebut pendekatan-pendekatan teoretis yang menolak alasan pilihan rasional untuk setiap fenomena sosial dan positivisme pada umumnya. Istilah ini dipopulerkan oleh Robert Keohane dalam pidato kepresidenannya di International Studies Association pada tahun 1988.[1] Pidato tersebut berjudul "International Institutions: Two Approaches" dan menjabarkan dua pendekatan besar dalam studi lembaga internasional (dan fenomena internasional pada umumnya), rasionalisme dan reflektivisme. Kaum rasionalis, termasuk realis, neo-realis, liberal, neo-liberal, dan para ilmuwan yang memakai model teori permainan atau harapan kegunaan, adalah para teoriwan yang mengadopsi komitmen teori pilihan rasional secara teoretis dan ontologis.

Kritik

Kritik utama terhadap pendekatan reflektivis berasal dari perbedaan epistemologis antara reflektivisme dan positivisme. Sejak 1970-an, teori hubungan internasional arus utama cenderung memiliki orientasi epistemologi yang lebih positivis.[2] Penolakan reflektivis terhadap asumsi dan metode positivis memunculkan kritik bahwa pendekatan tersebut tidak dapat mengeluarkan pernyataan yang tepat mengenai dunia luar dan menolak seluruh "tatanan ilmu sosial".[3] Kritik semacam ini meluas di kalangan ilmu politik Amerika Serikat, dan reflektivisme umumnya tidak populer dalam pendidikan HI Amerika Serikat, khususnya ketika dibandingkan dengan pendidikan HI Eropa dan dunia ketiga.[4]
