背景和發行

歌曲名稱「玫瑰少年」指的是葉永鋕，葉永鋕生前就讀於臺灣屏東縣立高樹國民中學，因他特別的性別氣質而時常遭受同學的霸凌[4]。2000年4月，葉永鋕被發現傷重倒臥在血泊之中，且送醫之後不治死亡，之後該事件引起臺灣社會對於性別平等教育的廣泛討論[5]。

2015年11月，蔡依林邀請侯季然拍攝《不一樣又怎樣》系列紀錄片，包括葉永鋕篇在內的該系列紀錄片在她的「Play世界巡迴演唱會」上播放[6]。蔡依林憑藉她在華人流行文化的影響力多次為LGBT群體發聲，蔡依林談及葉永鋕時表示：「不只是同志，當你懂自己而且不為別人活的時候，就可以伸出手幫助身邊的人。[7]」

QQ音樂樂評人呆若木一評價：「《玫瑰少年》是一首詞曲俱佳的邊緣人群關懷曲目，簡約電子配憂傷旋律，儘管因為編曲趨於求穩缺乏想象力，而讓聽感相對乾澀，但依然能靠立意和流暢度勝出。歌詞說的是玫瑰少年遭霸凌犧牲的事，實際上也映射著自己、映射著受各種形式霸凌的邊緣人群。[17]」

PlayMusic音樂網的樂評人Janus Shau評價：「《玫瑰少年》雖是明快帶有熱帶感氣息的輕舞曲，卻也是專輯中最令人神傷的一首歌曲……感謝蔡依林始終有這樣的高度和氣度，用音樂包容各種美麗的可能性，也讓更多人觸摸到靈魂的各種型態。[18]」

2019年5月12日，歌曲《玫瑰少年》獲得中華音樂人交流協會2018年度十大單曲[19]。同年5月15日，第30屆金曲獎公布入圍名單，歌曲《玫瑰少年》入圍年度歌曲獎[21]。同年6月29日，歌曲《玫瑰少年》獲得第30屆金曲獎年度歌曲獎[2]，蔡依林也因此成為史上獲得該獎項次數最多的歌手[22]。同年12月4日，Kiel Tutin憑藉歌曲《玫瑰少年》MV中的編舞獲得Mnet亞洲音樂大獎最佳編舞[23]。

爭議

2023年9月2日，蔡依林在中國湖南省長沙市舉辦「Ugly Beauty世界巡迴演唱會」，但並未演唱該巡演之前每場場次都演唱的歌曲《玫瑰少年》，引發歌迷議論[28]。之後，蔡依林在河南省鄭州市、安徽省合肥市和四川省成都市舉辦的場次也並未演唱該歌曲。另外，之前也將該歌曲作為演唱曲目的五月天在同月8日在陝西省西安市舉辦的「好想好想見到你演唱會」上也未演唱該歌曲，但之後在江蘇省南京市和重慶市舉辦的場次卻演唱了該歌曲，但之後又在四川省成都市舉辦的場次再次未演唱該歌曲。
