İssos

Kilikya - Issos antik kentinde darb edilmiş Stater kategorisinde olan antik sikke. Ön yüzde Apollo ayakta sağ elinde patera tutuyor, sol eli arkasındaki defne ağacında, arka yüzde Herakles ayakta sağ elinde sopası, sol elinde yay ve ok tutuyor aslan derisi postu kolunun üzerinde, sağ tarafta ankh benzeri sembol.
Kilikya - Issos antik kentinde darb edilmiş MÖ 333'te Issus Savaşı'ndan sonra Kilikya'nın satraplığına atanan Büyük İskender'in korumlarından olan Balakros'a ait Stater sikke. Sikke ön yüzde sağ elinde nilüfer uçlu asa tutan şehir tanrısı Sandon/Baal, ön tarafta başak ve üzüm salkımı, arka tip üç tepeli Attika miğferi ile Tanrıça Athena. Yunan mitolojisine göre, şehrin kurucusu Kilikya Tanrısı Sandon ile bir tuttukları Herakles'tir. Herakles'in tasvirleri M.Ö.4. yüzyıla ait Tarsus sikkeleri üzerinde Sandon yani şehir tanrısı olarak görülmektedir. Sandon çok eski bir Kilikya tanrısıdır. Aynı zamanda Klasik dönemde Anadolu [ Hitit ] aslan tanrısıdır.

İssos veya Issos (Latince: Issus, Yunanca: Ἱσσός veya Ἱσσοί) Hatay'ın kuzeydoğusunda İskenderun 'un kuzeyinde Akdeniz kıyısında yer alan önemli bir antik şehirdir. Günümüzde Hatay'ın Dörtyol ilçesine bağlı olan Yeşilköy bölgesinde, İskenderun Körfezinin doğu kıyısında, denize 500 mesafede yer alan antik kenttir. Zeminden 26 metre yükseklikteki höyük 33 dönüm alana yayılmış durumdadır. Günümüz Kinet Höyük olarak bilinmektedir. İssos [Yunanca Ἱσσός] Antik Kenti Kilikya'daki en büyük antik [Klasik Çağ öncesi] yerleşimi olarak kabul edilmektedir. İssos [Ἱσσός] Antik Kenti Hititçe Izziya olarak bilinmektedir. Höyükte yapılan kazılarda Geç Neolitik Çağ, İlk Tunç Çağı [MÖ 2.500-2.000], Orta Tunç Çağı [MÖ 1.650-1.550], Son Tunç Çağı / Hitit Dönemi [MÖ 1.400-1.200], Demir Çağı [MÖ 1.200-400] ve Geç Demir Çağı'ndan Helenistik Dönem'e kadar [MÖ 7.-1. Yüzyıllar] yerleşimleri ortaya çıkartılmıştır. MÖ 333 yılında, Ahameniş [Pers] hükümdarı III. Darius ile Makedonya kralı Büyük İskender arasında yapılan İssos Savaşı İssos Ovası'nda yapılmıştır. Savaş Büyük İskender komutasındaki Makedon ordusunun zaferiyle sonuçlanmıştır.
