Subtraksjon

Subtraksjon er en av de grunnleggende regneartene (operasjonene) innenfor aritmetikken og kalles ofte også minus.

Symbolet for subtraksjon er − eller den litt kortere - i digitale sammenhenger. Tidligere var også ÷ brukt som minustegn.[1] Den er fremdeles å finne noen steder, som f.eks. med prosenter i salgsplakater (÷25 %). Dette kan imidlertid være forvirrende fordi ÷ også brukes om divisjon (deletegn) på kalkulatorer.

Ved subtraksjon trekkes et tall (subtrahend) fra et annet tall (minuend), slik at man får en differanse.

Subtraksjon er ekvivalent med addisjon av et negativt tall.
