La Buquebus è una compagnia di navigazione uruguaiana, attiva nel trasporto di merci e passeggeri nel Río de la Plata.[1]
Storia
La compagnia venne fondata nel 1979 a Buenos Aires dall'imprenditore argentino Juan Carlos Lòpez Mena, che pochi anni dopo, nel 1986, avviò il primo collegamento rapido con Montevideo, in Uruguay, utilizzando il catamarano Eladia Isabel, che operato per la compagnia fino al 2025.[2] Negli anni, la compagnia ha continuato ad espandersi regolarmente, espandendosi anche nel settore nel trasporto pubblico in bus, o facendo costruire catamarani sempre più grandi dimensioni, come il Francisco, il più veloce al mondo, intitolato all'omonimo pontefice, o il China Zorrilla, costruito nel 2026 ed alimentato a batteria.[3] Nei primi anni '90 la compagnia si espanse anche nello stretto di Gibilterra, inaugurando dei nuovi collegamenti tra Algeciras e Ceuta, operati dai propri aliscafi. Tuttavia, tale filiale venne ceduta il 19 settembre 2007 alla spagnola Baleària, che tutt'oggi opera la rotta.[4]
