Sastra Latin

Sastra Latin meliputi esai, sejarah, puisi, drama, dan tulisan lain yang ditulis dalam bahasa Latin. Sastra ini mulai berkembang pada abad ke-3 SM dan membutuhkan waktu dua abad untuk menjadi sastra yang dominan di Romawi Kuno, karena saat itu banyak orang Romawi terdidik yang masih membaca dalam bahasa Yunani Kuno. Sastra Latin merupakan lanjutan dari sastra Yunani.

Latin adalah bahasa yang dituturkan oleh bangsa Romawi Kuno, tetapi juga merupakan lingua franca Eropa selama abad pertengahan, sehingga sastra Latin tidak hanya meliputi tulisan pengarang Romawi seperti Cicero, Vergil, Ovid dan Lucretius, tetapi juga termasuk tulisan penulis Eropa setelah jatuhnya Kekaisaran Romawi seperti Agustinus (354–430 AD), Francis Bacon (1561-1626), dan Spinoza (1632–1677).
