הזמנה לנשים להצטרף לפעילות 

צבא נשות השלום (באנגלית: Women’s Peace Army) היה תנועת נשים אוסטרלית אנטי-מלחמתית וסוציאליסטית, שנוסדה במלבורן, אוסטרליה בשנת 1915. התנועה ביקשה לאחד נשים, ללא קשר לאמונתן הדתית או הפוליטית, ולהניע אותן לפעולה נגד מיליטריזם. סניפים אוטונומיים של צבא נשות השלום הוקמו גם בערים נוספות באוסטרליה, סידני ובריסביין.[1]

הקמה ומטרות

צבא נשות השלום הוקם במלבורן שבויקטוריה, אוסטרליה, ב-8 ביולי 1915, במהלך פגישה של אגודת נשים בראשות וידה גולדשטיין, סופרג'יסטית ופציפיסטית.[2] המוטו של התנועה היה "אנחנו נלחמות נגד המלחמה" ("We war against war") והדגל שלהן היה צבעי התנועה הסופרג'יסטית – סגול (כבוד), ירוק (תקווה) ולבן (טוהר).[3] התנועה התנגדה למלחמה וגיוס חובה וטענה שממשלות צריכות לקבל מנדט מן האזרחים באמצעות משאל עם, לפני יציאה למלחמה.[3]

התנועה ארגנה אירועים ציבוריים סדירים בהם גייסה חברות חדשות. פעילויות נוספות כללו הפגנות ומשלוח עצומות לחברי פרלמנט. חברות חדשות נדרשו לחתום על התחייבות שהן מקבלות על עצמן את עקרונות הפעולה של צבא נשות השלום:

"אני מאמינה כי המלחמה היא ביזוי של מוסד האמהות, עקרות כלכלית ופשע נגד האנושות והאנושיות. לכן אני, מתחייבת לשירות פעיל למען השלום על ידי התנגדות פעילה לגיוס חובה, אימונים צבאיים וכל צורה של מיליטריזם. יתר על כן, אני מתחייבת להתמודד ללא מורא עם ביקורת שלילית, מלשנות, ורדיפה אחר אמונתי כי האהבה וצדק לבדם יביאו שלום לעולם."

סניף קווינסלנד

הסניף של צבא נשות השלום בקווינסלנד הוקם ב-16 בנובמבר 1915. למפגש הגיעו נשים מהסניף במלבורן לשאת דברים, ונבחרו בעלות תפקידים בסניף המקומי.[3]

במהלך פגישה של התנועה בעיר, הודיעו רשויות הצבא למארגנות כי הם יעצרו כל מי שתשיר את השיר האנטי-מלחמתי האמריקאי "לא גידלתי את בני להיות חייל" (I Didn't Raise My Boy to Be a Soldier), וזאת משום שהשיר מפר את חוק החירום שחוקק הפרלמנט האוסטרלי ב-1914, שנתן לממשלה האוסטרלית סמכויות מיוחדות לזמן המלחמה. במהלך המפגש עותקים של השיר חולקו והוא הושר על ידי המשתתפות, אך לא בוצעו מעצרים של המשתתפות.[3]
