קרתגו (הנקודה השחורה)

ישנם מספר מקורות עתיקים שעל פיהם משערים חוקרים בני זמננו שייתכן כי מספר קהילות יהודיות חיו בעיר קרתגו.

מספר השערות לגבי הקהילה היהודית

לאחר מכן, כאשר חרבה קרתגו במלחמה הפונית השלישית, התגיירו רוב תושביה הפיניקים. תאוריה זו מתרצת את סיבת היעלמותם התמוהה של תושבי קרתגו הפיניקים מן האזור.[1][2][3]

קרתגו אף מוזכרת בתלמוד הירושלמי:

מצור ועד קרתגו, העמים מכירים את ישראל ואת אביהם שבשמים אבל מצור מערבה ומקרתגו מזרחה לא יודעים האומות לא את ישראל ולא את אביהם שבשמים

תרשיש

סברה נוספת היא כי תרשיש המוזכרת בתנ"ך היא העיר קרתגו. לטענה זו יש מספר התנגדויות מפי חוקרים הטוענים כי העיר תרשיש הייתה באזור חצי האי האיברי.[6]
