Violet Paget, coñecida literariamente como Vernon Lee, nada en Boulogne-sur-Mer o 14 de outubro de 1856 e finada en Florencia o 13 de febreiro de 1935, foi unha escritora e ensaísta en lingua inglesa. Destacou pola súa ficción sobrenatural e polos seus estudos de estética. Seguidora de Walter Pater (1839-1894), escribiu preto dunha ducia de ensaios sobre arte, música e viaxes.

Traxectoria

Vernon Lee naceu en Francia o 14 de outubro de 1856, na localidade de Boulogne-sur-Mer, filla dos migrantes británicos Henry Ferguson Paget e Matilda Lee-Hamilton. Foi medio irmá do poeta Eugene Lee-Hamilton (1845-1907),[1] froito do primeiro matrimonio da súa nai, do que tomaría o apelido para o seu pseudónimo. Malia escribir principalmente para unha audiencia anglofalante e as súas frecuentes visitas a Londres, pasou gran parte da súa vida no continente, especialmente en Italia.

Viviu na época vitoriana, feito que se manifesta na súa escrita. O seu vínculo con Italia foi fondo, pois viviu en Florencia a maior parte da súa vida e escribiu ensaios de peso sobre a cultura renacentista. Foi amiga de importante figuras da cultura do momento, tales que Robert Browning, Walter Pater, George Bernard Shaw ou Edith Wharton.
