Le département de l'Efficacité gouvernementale[note 1] (DOGE, Department of Government Efficiency en anglais) est une commission présidentielle demandée par le président élu Donald Trump en préparation de son second mandat en tant que président des États-Unis.

Le , Donald Trump a annoncé son intention de créer ce ministère sous la direction d'Elon Musk et Vivek Ramaswamy[1]. Trump a déclaré que le travail du ministère se « terminera » au plus tard le , le 250e anniversaire de la signature de la déclaration d'indépendance[2], en coïncidence avec les célébrations du semiquincentenaire américain (en) et une « grande fête américaine » proposée[3]. Trump a qualifié les résultats attendus de ce ministère de « cadeau parfait à l'Amérique ».

L'acronyme DOGE fait apparemment référence de manière délibérée au Dogecoin, une cryptomonnaie prisée par Musk[1],[4].

Contexte

Le président Javier Milei d'Argentine a déclaré qu'avant l'annonce officielle de la création du DOGE, Elon Musk avait contacté Federico Sturzenegger, ministre argentin de la Dérégulation et Transformation de l'État (es), pour discuter de l'imitation du modèle de son ministère aux États-Unis[5].

L'idée du DOGE est liée aux promesses de campagne de Trump de réduire les dépenses fédérales, la taille du gouvernement et le déficit budgétaire[6],[7].

Musk a suggéré que l'ancien représentant américain et candidat à la présidence Ron Paul pourrait travailler avec le ministère[8].

Impact potentiel

Jamie Dimon, PDG de JPMorgan Chase, la plus grande banque américaine, a soutenu l'idée de créer ce ministère pour améliorer la compétence du gouvernement[9]. The New York Times s'est interrogé sur le conflit d'intérêts potentiel entre Musk, contractant du gouvernement fédéral, et son rôle au sein de ce ministère[10].

Le , lors d'un rassemblement à Madison Square Garden, Musk a affirmé que le DOGE pourrait réduire la dette nationale de 2 000 milliards de dollars[11].
