Les élections législatives françaises de 1956 se tiennent le . Ce sont les dernières élections législatives de la Quatrième république, après les élections de novembre 1946 et de juin 1951.

Mode de scrutin

L'Assemblée nationale est composée de 626 sièges pourvus au scrutin proportionnel plurinominal suivant la règle au plus fort reste dans le cadre départemental, sans panachage.

Le vote préférentiel est admis, en inscrivant un numéro d'ordre en face du nom d'un, de plusieurs ou de tous les candidats de la liste. Mais l'ordre ne pourra être modifié que si au moins la moitié des suffrages portés sur la liste est numéroté. Dans les faits les modifications ne dépasseront jamais les 7%.

La loi électorale du , dite loi des apparentements ne s'applique pas dans le département. Un seuil de 4% des voix doit être franchit pour prétendre à un siège.

Dans le département de la Seine, cinquante-sept députés sont à élire, dans six circonscriptions :

  • la ville de Paris est découpée en trois circonscriptions, la première élisant 10 députés, les deux autres 11 :
  1. La première correspond aux 5e, 6e, 7e, 13e, 14e et 15e arrondissement de Paris, soit la Rive gauche,
  2. La deuxième regroupe les 1er, 2e, 8e, 9e, 16e, 17e et 18e arrondissement de Paris soit l'ouest de la Rive droite,
  3. La troisième contient les 3e, 4e, 10e, 11e, 12e, 19e et 20e arrondissement de Paris soit l'est de la Rive droite ;
  • le reste du département est également découpé en trois circonscriptions, les deux premières ayant 9 sièges, la sixième en élisant 7 :
  1. La quatrième circonscription, dite de "Seine-Sud", regroupe les cantons de Nogent-sur-Marne, Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Charenton-le-Pont, Ivry-sur-Seine, Villejuif, Sceaux et Vanves,
  2. La cinquième dite "Seine-Nord-Ouest" réunit les cantons de Boulogne-Billancourt, Puteaux, Colombes, Courbevoie, Neuilly-sur-Seine, Levallois-Perret, Asnières-sur-Seine, Clichy et Saint-Ouen,
  3. La sixième, dite "Seine-Nord-Est", regroupe les cantons de Saint-Denis, Aubervilliers, Pantin, Noisy-le-Sec, Montreuil-sous-Bois, Vincennes.
