Isobretagnenajokoira (grand fauve de Bretagne) on sukupuuttoon kuollut ranskalainen koirarotu.

Ulkonäkö

Karvapeite oli lyhyt, tiheä ja karhea. Väritys oli yksivärinen vaalean kullanruskea (fauve eli fawn).[1]

Luonne ja käyttäytyminen

Rotu oli rohkea, sitkeä, kiivasluonteinen ja itsepäinen.[1]

Alkuperä

Isobretagnenajokoira oli vanha rotu, joka jalostettiin alun perin suden metsästykseen Luoteis-Ranskan lammaslaitumien alueilla. 1500-luvun alkupuolella Frans I omisti rodunedustajista koostuneen kuninkaallisen ajueen, ja myöhemmin samalla vuosisadalla Kaarle IX mainitsi rodun olleen yksi senajan tärkeimmistä ajokoirista. Kuitenkin 1800-luvun keskivaiheilla susikantojen romahduttua kuoli myös isobretagnenajokoira lähes sukupuuttoon. Vuonna 1873 löydettiin enää varmoja todisteita vain kolmesta osittain rodun perimää kantaneesta ajueesta.[1]

Vaikutus nykyisiin rotuihin

Ranskalaiset rodun ihailijat ehtivät ennen sukupuuttoa risteyttää sen briquet griffon vendéenin kanssa, jalostaen siitä samalla pienemmän version: griffon fauve de bretagnen.[1]
