Το Σώκαστρο ή Σόκαστρο ή Εσώκαστρο, είναι νησίδα του Αιγαίου στο Καρπάθιο πέλαγος[1][2][3].

Γεωγραφία - Ιστορία

Το Σώκαστρο βρίσκεται δυτικά της Καρπάθου απέναντι από τον οικισμό Λευκό, έχει έκταση 0,119 τ.χλμ.[3] και σύμφωνα με ορισμένους πιστεύεται ότι ήταν χερσόνησος που αποκόπηκε μετά από σεισμό[4]. Στη βραχονησίδα υπάρχουν υπολείμματα βυζαντινής οχύρωσης και οικισμού με θολοσκέπαστα κτίσματα. Έχει θεωρηθεί σταθμός ανεφοδιασμού του βυζαντινού στόλου, αναφέρεται ότι υπήρξε αγκυροβόλιο και ορμητήριο του Νικηφόρου Φωκά κατά την εκστρατεία του για την ανακατάληψη της Κρήτης το 960[2][4].

Διοικητικά

Ως οικισμός αναγνωρίστηκε το 2011[5]. Σύμφωνα με την απογραφή του 2011 δεν κατοικείται και σύμφωνα με το σχέδιο Καλλικράτης ανήκει στη τοπική κοινότητα Μεσοχωρίου που ανήκει στη δημοτική ενότητα Καρπάθου του Δήμου Καρπάθου[6].
