Το Νεοχώρι είναι ημιορεινό χωριό της Θράκης στην Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Ξάνθης.[1]

Γεωγραφικά - ιστορικά στοιχεία

Το Νεοχώρι βρίσκεται προς τα όρια με την Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Δράμας και την Περιφερειακη Ενότητα Καβάλας σε απόσταση 35 χλμ. Δ.-ΒΔ. από την Ξάνθη, 53 χλμ. Α.-ΒΑ. από τη Δράμα και 64 χλμ. ΒΑ. από την Καβάλα. Το χωριό είναι κτισμένο στους νότιους πρόποδες της Δυτικής Ροδόπης, κοντά στον ποταμό Νέστο σε υψόμετρο 90 μέτρα[1] ενώ μέσα από αυτό διέρχεται η ΕΟ Ξάνθης - Δράμας καθώς και η Σιδηροδρομική Γραμμή Θεσσαλονίκης - Αλεξανδρούπολης.

Αναφέρεται επίσημα, μετά την απελευθέρωση της Θράκης, το 1927 στο ΦΕΚ 144Α - 15/07/1927 να ορίζεται έδρα της κοινότητας (μέχρι το 1928 που ορίστηκε το Ιωνικό).[2] Σύμφωνα με το Πρόγραμμα «Καλλικράτης» και την τροποποίησή του Κλεισθένης Ι, μαζί με το Ιωνικό, το Κάτω Ιωνικό, την Καλύβα και το Σταυροχώρι αποτελούν την κοινότητα Νεοχωρίου[3] που υπάγεται στη δημοτική ενότητα Σταυρούπολης του Δήμου Ξάνθης και σύμφωνα με την απογραφή του 2011 έχει ως πληθυσμό 181 κατοίκους.[4]

Εδώ έζησε ο Αλέξανδρος Μπαλτατζής όταν η οικογένειά του εγκαταστάθηκε το 1922 μετά την ανταλλαγή πληθυσμών και προς τιμήν του οποίου υπάρχει μουσείο.[5]
