Εκλογές στην Ινδονησία

Στην Ινδονησία διεξάγονται εκλογές για Πρόεδρο και για Βουλή. Έπειτα από τον εξαναγκασμό σε παραίτηση του προέδρου Σουχάρτο το 1998, ύστερα από λαϊκές κινητοποιήσεις, έγιναν σημαντικές κυβερνητικές μεταρρυθμίσεις. Με τέσσερις αναθεωρήσεις του Συντάγματος του 1945 (το 1998, 1999, 2000 και του 2001) καθορίστηκε η διάκριση των εξουσιών σε εκτελεστική, νομοθετική και δικαστική.[1] Αρχηγός του Κράτους και διοικητής του στρατού, και επίσης υπεύθυνος για την εξωτερική πολιτική είναι ο εκάστοτε Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας. Ο Πρόεδρος διορίζει το υπουργικό συμβούλιο και τα μέλη του δεν απαιτείται να είναι εκλεγμένοι βουλευτές. Οι πρώτες προεδρικές εκλογές κατά τις οποίες ο πρόεδρος και ο αντιπρόεδρος εξελέγησαν άμεσα από το λαό διενεργήθηκαν το 2004.[2] Ο πρόεδρος μπορεί να υπηρετήσει μόνο δύο συνεχείς πενταετείς θητείες.[3] Δικαίωμα ψήφου έχουν όσοι και όσες είναι πάνω από 17 ετών ή όσοι/ες έχουν δελτίο ταυτότητας (ινδονησιακά: Kartu Tanda Penduduk).

Η νομοθετική εξουσία ασκείται από δύο σώματα. Το Συμβούλιο των Αντιπροσώπων του Λαού (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat) αποτελείται από 550 μέλη, τα οποία εκλέγονται για πενταετή θητεία με αναλογική αντιπροσώπευση σε πολυεδρικές εκλογικές περιφέρειες. Το άλλο σώμα είναι η Συμβουλευτική Λαϊκή Συνέλευση (Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat) το οποίο είναι το συμβούλιο των τοπικών αντιπροσώπων (Dewan Perwakilan Daerah). Έπειτα από τη διεξαγωγή εκλογών το 2004, το MPR μετατράπηκε σε κοινοβούλιο με δύο σώματα, με τη δημιουργία του DPD ως δεύτερου σώματος, σε μια προσπάθεια να ενισχυθεί η εκπροσώπηση της επαρχίας.
