Die nasionale vlag van Mongolië is op 26 Desember 1911 amptelik in gebruik geneem. Die vlag vertoon drie vertikale bane van vlagpaal- na wapperkant in rooi, blou en rooi met die nasionale embleem in die rooi baan aan die wapperkant.

Simboliek

Die blou stel die ewige blou lug voor en die rooi bane stel Mongolië se vermoë om in moeilike omstandighede te floreer, voor. Die nasionale embleem, bekend as die sojombo, is ’n suilvormige rangskikking van abstrakte en geometriese voorstellings van vuur, die son, maan, aarde, water en die Taijitu of Jin-Jang-simbool.

Geskiedenis van die vlag

Met die afsterwe van die laaste Khan in 1924 het die Mongoolse Rewolusionêre Volksparty op 26 November 1924 die Volksrepubliek Mongolië verklaar. Op dieselfde dag het die parlement die grondwet wat in die seël, embleem en vlag geanker is, aanvaar.

Die eerste nasionale vlag is geskoei op die Sowjet-model en was ’n eenvoudige rooi baan met ’n son en maan in geel in die skildhoek. In 1924 is die vlag gewysig en is die sojombo in blou in die middel van die vlag geplaas. In 1940 is die vlag weer gewysig na drie vertikale bane in rooi, blou en rooi met die sojombo in geel aan die wapperkant en ’n sosialistiese ster bo-aan.
