Pulau Ararkula berdasarkan Peraturan Presiden Nomor 78 tahun 2005 merupakan salah satu pulau terluar di Indonesia. Pada 2 Maret 2017, status pulau terluar tersebut diperbaharui oleh Presiden Joko Widodo melalui Keputusan Presiden Nomor 6 Tahun 2017 tentang Penetapan Pulau-Pulau Kecil Terluar.^[1] Melalui dasar hukum tersebut, pemerintah menetapakan Pulau Ararkula beserta 110 pulau kecil lainnya sebagai pulau-pulau kecil terluar.

Walaupun berstatus sebagai pulau, secara fisik pulau Ararkula hanyalah berupa gosong pasir. Pulau Ararkula ini tidak berpenghuni. Pulau Ararkula (nama lokalnya yaitu Pulau Konan Danar) menjadi tempat singgah dan tempat tinggal sementara bagi masyarakat dari desa-desa sekitar (khususnya desa Salmona/Selemona) yang sedang mencari hasil laut, dengan mendirikan bangunan-bangunan ukuran kecil dari kayu dan atapnya dari daun kelapa. Pulau ini ditumbuhi berbagai macam vegetasi, seperti pohon kelapa, sagu, mangrove dan lain-lain.

Secara administrasi, Pulau Ararkula termasuk dalam wilayah Desa Selmona Kecamatan Aru Tengah, Kabupaten Kepulauan Aru.^[2] Secara Geografis, Pulau Ararkula terletak pada titik koordinat 050 36’ 15,17” LS ; 1340 50’ 46,29” BT. Di Pulau ini terdapat Titik Dasar No. TD 097A dan Titik Referensi No. TR 097.

Luas dataran Pulau Ararkula adalah 0,1186 km persegi denga keliling 1,271 km.^[3]
