Joachim Wach

Joachim Wach, Yahudi asıllı Alman din bilimci. Eserlerinde Joachim Wach adını kullanan Wach'ın tam adı Joachim Ernst Adolphe Felix Wach şeklindedir.

Wach hem ana hem baba tarafından filozof Moses Mendelssohn ve kompozitör Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy'nin de üyeleri arasında bulunduğu Mendelssohn ailesinden gelmektedir. Dresden'de okuduktan sonra 1916'da Alman ordusuna kayıt oldu. I. Dünya Savaşı'ndan sonra Münih, Berlin, Freiburg ve Leipzig üniversitelerinde çalıştı. 1922'de Leipzig Üniversitesi'nden felsefe doktoru unvanını aldı ve aynı üniversitede öğretim görevlisi olarak ders vermeye başladı. Yahudi kökenli bir hristiyan olan Wach Nazilerin döneminde ABD'ye göç etti ve Brown Üniversitesi'nde Biblical Literature alanında misafir profesör olarak çalıştı daha sonra doçent oldu (1939-1946). Luteran olarak büyümüş olmasına rağmen ABD'ye geldiğinde Episkopalyan oldu. 1946'da ABD vatandaşlığına kabul edildi.
