Gagavuzya Cumhuriyeti (Gagavuzca: Gagauz Respublikası, Rusça: Республика Гагаузия romanize: Pespublika Gagauziya) Sovyetler Birliği'nin dağılmasının ardından Moldova Sovyet Sosyalist Cumhuriyeti'den ayrılan ve 1990 – 1994 yılları arasında bağımsız olduktan sonra barışçıl bir şekilde Moldova'ya katılan devlet. Günümüzde Gagavuz Özerk Bölgesi olarak adlandırılmaktadır.

Tarihçe

Gagavuz halkının ilk düşünce kulüpleri 1980'li yılların sonunda oluşmaya başladı. 21 Mayıs 1989 tarihinde Gagavuz halkının temsilcilerinin ilk kongresi yapıldı. Örgütlenen sosyal hareket dağılmaya başlayan Sovyetler Birliğinden ayrılarak bağımsızlığın ilan edilmesini hedefliyordu. Güney Moldova'da 19 Ağustos 1990 günü toplanan kongre Gagavuz Cumhuriyetini ilan etti. Bölgenin Moldova'dan ayrılmasını istemeyen merkezi yönetim cumhuriyete çok sayıda silahlı kuvvet ile Moldovalı gönüllü gönderdi.[1] Bölge kanlı bir savaşın eşiğine gelse de müdahil olan Sovyet Kızıl Ordusu sayesinde gerginlik durduruldu. Dört yıl boyunca tanınmayan bir devlet olarak varlığını sürdüren Gagavuz Cumhuriyeti, 23 Aralık 1994 tarihinde yapılan referandumda Moldova'nın otonom bir bölgesi olması kararının çıkması üzerine şu an özerk bir bölge olarak tarihteki yerini koruyor.[kaynak belirtilmeli]

Silahlı kuvvetler

Moldova ile Gagauz hükûmetleri arasındaki gerilim yükselmeye devam ederken Gagavuzya, Moldova işgali ihtimaline karşı paramiliter birlikler kurmaya başladı.[2] En bilinen birlik İvan Burgucu'nun önderliğindeki Bucak Batalyonu'ydu (Gagavuzca: Bucak Batalyonu; Rumence: Batalionul Bugeac).[3]
