Mga abelyana

Ang isang nuwes (Ingles: nut) ay isang bunga na binubuo ng isang matigas o matibay na balat na prinoprotekta ang isang buto na kadalasang nakakain. Sa pangkalahatang gamit at kahulugang pangkusina, tinatawag na nuwes ang isang malawak na kalipunan ng tuyong buto, subalit sa kontekstong pambotanika, ipinapahiwatig ng "nuwes" na ang hindi nagbubukas ang balat upang ilabas ang buto (indehisente o hindi nabibiyak o pumuputok kapag nahihinog).

Karamihan sa mga buto mula sa mga prutas ay likas na nilalabas ang sarili mula sa balat, subalit hindi ganito sa mga nuwes tulad ng mga abelyana, kastanyas, at beyota, na may matigas na balat at nagmula sa obaryong kompuwesto. Ang pangkalahatan at orihinal na gamit ng katawagan ay hindi gaanong limitado, ang maraming nuwes (sa kahulugang pangkusina), tulad ng mga almendras, pistatso, at nuwes ng Brasil,[1] ay hindi nuwes sa kahulugang pambotanika. Karaniwang tumutukoy ang gamit ng katawagan sa kahit anumang matigas na balat na nakakain ang buto bilang isang nuwes.[2] Siksik sa enerhiya at mapagkukunang pagkaing mayaman sa nutrisyon ang mga nuwes.[3]

Depinisyon

Ang isang buto ay ang magulang na obulong pertilisado ng isang halaman; binubuo ito ng tatlong bahagi, ang bilig na nabubuo sa isang bagong halaman, ang inambak na pagkain para sa bilig, at isang balat pamproteksyon ng buto. Sa botanika, ang isang nuwes ay isang bunga na may isang makahoy na perikarpiyo na nabubuo mula sa pistilong sinkarpo. Maaring ilaman ang nuwes sa isang imbolukro, isang hugis-tasang kayarian na nabuo mula sa mga braktea ng bulaklak. Ang imbolukro ay maaring makaliskis, matinik, madahon o hugis tubo, depende sa espesye ng nuwes.[4]
