Michaił Aleksandrowicz Wrubel, ros. Михаи́л Алекса́ндрович Вру́бель (ur. 5 marca?/17 marca 1856 w Omsku, zm. 1 kwietnia?/14 kwietnia 1910 w Petersburgu) – rosyjski malarz i grafik tworzący w stylu secesji i symbolizmu.

Życiorys

Syn Rosjanina, którego przodkowie sprzed dwóch pokoleń pochodzili z Polski[1], i Dunki[2]. Naukę rozpoczął w petersburskiej Szkole Rysunku (1863–1864, 1869), kontynuował w Cesarskiej Akademii Sztuk Pięknych (1880–1884) u Ilji Riepina. W latach 1884–1889 przebywał w Kijowie, od 1889 w Moskwie. Odbył wiele podróży na Zachód (Francja, Włochy). Był scenografem w Moskiewskiej Prywatnej Operze Rosyjskiej(inne języki) im. Sawwy Mamontowa. W latach 1884–1889 wykonał malowidła w Monasterze Św. Cyryla w Kijowie. Związany był z kręgiem modernistycznego czasopisma i ugrupowania artystycznego „Mir iskusstwa”[3].

W 1902 zapadł na chorobę psychiczną, w 1906 stracił wzrok.

Malował portrety oraz symboliczne kompozycje figuralne. Motywy czerpał z ruskich podań i baśni oraz poezji romantycznej. Charakterystyczny dla niego sposób malowania przypomina mozaiki. Jego obrazy przenika nastrój tajemniczości, niepokoju i dramatyzmu. Zajmował się też ceramiką artystyczną, drobną rzeźbą i scenografią.
