Iteowate (Iteaceae) – rodzina roślin z rzędu skalnicowców obejmująca od 1 do 3 rodzajów w zależności od ujęcia systematycznego. W szerszym ujęciu zgodnie z Angiosperm Phylogeny Website i systemem APG IV wyróżnia się tu dwa rodzaje z 19-20 gatunkami. Występują one w rozproszeniu na różnych kontynentach – rodzaj Itea najbardziej zróżnicowany jest w południowo-wschodniej Azji, jeden jego przedstawiciel rośnie we wschodniej części Ameryki Północnej, inny w Afryce wschodniej i południowej (wyodrębniany czasem jako Choristylis rhamnoides), a Pterostemon w Ameryce Środkowej (Meksyk)[4][2].

Morfologia

Pokrój
Najczęściej krzewy, rzadziej drzewa, półkrzewy i pnącza[2][5]. Rośliny z włoskami jednokomórkowymi i gruczołowatymi[2].
Liście
Zimozielone do półzimozielonych, rzadziej odpadające, skrętoległe, pojedyncze, ogonkowe[5], z drobnymi przylistkami[2][5]. Blaszka gruczołowato piłkowana, czasem kolczasta na brzegu[2][5].
Kwiaty
Obupłciowe, wpółdolne[5], zwykle drobne, zebrane w kwiatostany wierzchotkowate (Pterostemon) lub groniaste (Itea)[2]. Hypancjum płytkie[2]. Działek kielicha i płatków korony po pięć. Pręcików także pięć. U roślin z rodzaju Pterostemon oskrzydlone i ząbkowane nitki pręcików tworzą długą rurkę[2]. Zalążnia dwukomorowa z dwoma szyjkami słupka zwieńczonymi główkowatymi lub klapowanymi znamionami[5][2].
Owoce
Torebki pękające (Itea)[5] i niepękające (Pterostemon)[2], zawierające pojedyncze nasiona[2].

Systematyka

Pozycja rodziny według Angiosperm Phylogeny Website (aktualizowany system APG IV z 2018)

Rodzina siostrzana dla kladu obejmującego rodziny agrestowate i skalnicowate w obrębie rzędu skalnicowców[2].

W systemie APG III z 2009 ustalono szerokie ujęcie rodziny. We wcześniejszym systemie APG II z 2003 rodzina Iteaceae sensu lato była opcjonalna wobec wyróżniania dwóch odrębnych rodzin Iteaceae sensu stricto i Pterostemonaceae Small[2]. W systemie Cronquista z 1981 rodzaje tu zaliczane włączane były do szeroko ujmowanej rodziny agrestowatych Grossulariaceae[6].
