1940-årene

USA slapp en atombombe som rammet den japanske havnebyen Nagasaki i sluttfasen av andre verdenskrig i 1945.[1]

1940-årene var et tiår som varte fra 1. januar 1940 til 31. desember 1949. Tiåret er preget sterkt av andre verdenskrig som herjet bortimot hele verden i snaue 6 år fram til 1945.[2] Krigen etterlot seg enorme ødeleggelser, samt realiseringen av konsekvensene på diverse brudd på menneskerettigheter, inkludert holocaust. Verdenskrigen ble etterfulgt av den kalde krigen og blokaden av Berlin.[3][4] Internasjonale, politiske samarbeid som De forente nasjoner, NATO og Europarådet ble opprettet i 1940-årene.[5][6][7]
