Marijampolės herbas – vienas iš Marijampolės savivaldybės ir Marijampolės miesto heraldikos atributų.

Aprašas

Auksiniame lauke šokantis rudas žirgas su šv. Jurgiu – raiteliu sidabriniais šarvais ir raudonu apsiaustu. Balnas raudonas, pakinktai ir kamanos juodi. Raitelis sidabrine ietimi smeigia po žirgo kojomis šliaužiantį juodą sparnuotą slibiną surangyta uodega, alsuojatį raudona ugnimi. Raitelio veidas ir rankos natūralios spalvos, šalmo plunksnos – raudonos, žąslai ir slibino akis – sidabriniai.[1]

Istorija

Pirmasis herbas Marijampolei suteiktas 1792 m. vasario 23 d., tačiau žlugus ATR buvo panaikintas. Sovietmečiu 1970 m. birželio 17 d. patvirtintas naujas herbas (dailininkas Raimundas Minkevičius), kur šachmatiniame 9 laukų skyde buvo panaudotos 3 spalvos – revoliucinė raudona, balta ir juoda. Baltuose laukuose pavaizduoti žali penkialapiai dobilai, juoduose – po 4 geltonas liepsneles.

1997 m. gruodžio 18 d. dabartinį Marijampolės herbą dekretu pavirtino Lietuvos Respublikos Prezidentas.[2] Herbo etalono autorius – dailininkas Raimondas Miknevičius, herbą sukūręs pagal piešinį iš Lietuvos Metrikos.
