배재대학교(培材大學校, Pai Chai University)는 대한민국 대전광역시 서구에 있는 사립 대학이다. 배재고등학교를 모체로, 1980년 4년제대학으로 승격되면서 배재대학으로 개편하였으며, 1992년 종합대학으로 승격하였다. 교훈은 '크고자 하거든 남을 섬기라'이다. 3개 대학원(일반대학원, 특수대학원, 교육대학원), 4개 단과대학(하워드대학, 서재필대학, 아펜젤러대학, 김소월대학)으로 구성되어 있다.

연혁

1885년 미국 감리교 선교사였던 헨리 아펜젤러 목사가 세운 배재학당을 모체로 하여 1895년 배재학당 대학부(Pai Chai College)를 설립하였다. 같은 해 영문과 106명, 국한문과 60명, 신학과 6명의 입학으로 정규 교육과정이 시작되었으며 이 과정은 1909년 배재고등학당으로 인가되면서 사라졌다. 이후 일제 탄압으로 YMCA 안에서 잠시 명맥만 유지하다가 1925년 일제에 의하여 대학부는 1937년 배재중학교(6년)로 개칭하였다. 해방 이후에 1951년 배재중학교(3년) 및 배재고등학교(3년)로 개편하였고, 1958년 학교법인 배재학당의 인가를 받았다. 1979년 배재실업전문대학으로 개칭하였고, 1980년 10개 학과를 갖춘 4년제 배재대학으로 개편하였으며, 1992년 종합대학으로 승격하였다. 배재학당의 당훈에 따라서 대학교의 교훈은 '크고자 하거든 남을 섬기라'이다.
