歴史

旧・武蔵国豊島郡上練馬村小名上田柄。田柄という地名は古くから存在した。上練馬村と下練馬村にまたがり、区別のため上練馬側は上田柄といい現在の光が丘のあたりまで、下練馬川端も田柄といい現在の北町の自衛隊練馬駐屯地あたりまでを指す広大な範囲であった。

上田柄は東田柄・中田柄・西田柄・前田柄・北田柄・田柄谷（たがらや）・田柄久保（たがらくぼ）といった字に分かれていた。1932年（昭和7年）の板橋区成立時に練馬田柄町となり[7]、1949年（昭和24年）1月1日に冠を外して田柄町となった。1967年（昭和42年）10月1日に住居表示を実施して現行の田柄一丁目から五丁目となった[8]。

地名の由来

1639年の検地帳に見られる古い地名だが、その由来は定かでない[9]。
