    「うそ」は、1974年1月25日に発売された中条きよしの再デビューシングル。

    解説

    • 1968年以後、高波明、渥美健の芸名で歌手デビューするも全くヒットに恵まれなかった中条きよしの再デビューシングルである。
    • シングルバージョンの他に、後にテイチクレコードで録音されたもの、RCAで録音された別バージョンが存在している。
    • カバーとしては1974年10月藤圭子LP「命火」収録。1974年12月五木ひろしLP「おんな・涙・わかれ歌」に収録。

    制作

    • 詞先だが、作曲者・平尾昌晃の元付き人が中条（当時は渥美健）を担当しており、その人と中条本人から、平尾へ直接依頼があったのが経緯である[1]。
    • 詞の一部は、作詞者・山口洋子自身が経営していた店の、「ホステスが自分の彼氏の家に行ったら、口紅がついたたばこの吸い殻があった」という実話が元になっているという[2]。
    • ホステスの気持ちを上手くくすぐり[3]、大ヒットに繋がった[3]。
    • ジャンル的には演歌ながら、16分音符が多用され、詰め込まれた構成になっている[4][5]。
    • 当初はB面曲になる予定だったが、平尾・山口の意向もあり、逆にした[6]。

    セールス・チャート

    • 発売から3ヶ月余りでオリコントップ10に初登場し、6週後には1位を獲得し、そこから8週連続1位を獲得。1974年度の年間チャートでは、殿さまキングスの「なみだの操」、小坂明子の「あなた」に次いで3位にランクイン。累計売り上げは150万枚を突破した[7]。

    作品での使用

    2007年放送のテレビドラマ『東京タワー 〜オカンとボクと、時々、オトン〜』では、曲のポスターが登場するほか、オカン（倍賞美津子）が歌うシーンが度々登場する。また原作ではオカンは「うそ」をステレオで正座で聴いていたとある。

    2014年12月31日に『絶対に笑ってはいけない大脱獄24時』では、中条と友近で披露した。
