ויליאם ג'רלד גולדינג (באנגלית: William Gerald Golding‏; 19 בספטמבר 1911 – 19 ביוני 1993) היה סופר, מחזאי ומשורר אנגלי, חתן פרס נובל לספרות.

ביוגרפיה

ויליאם גולדינג נולד בסנט קולומב מיינור, שבקורנוול, אנגליה. בשנת 1940 התגייס לצי הבריטי, שירת בסיירות, משחתות ושולות מוקשים ובסיום המלחמה היה מפקדה של ספינת טורפדו.

בשנת 1945 התמנה למנהל בית ספר בסולסברי ולימד שם שנים רבות יוונית עתיקה.

את ספרו "בעל זבוב" חיבר ב-1954. הספר הוסרט בשתי גרסאות, ב-1963 וב-1990 ואף יצאה מהדורה מיוחדת לבתי הספר באנגליה.

ב-1955 כתב את ספרו החביב עליו מכולם, "היורשים", תיאור האופן שבו ההומו סאפיינס ניצח את האדם הניאנדרתלי, העדין והטוב יותר לפי גולדינג, במלחמת הקיום.

ספרים נוספים שכתב בתקופה מאוחרת יותר זכו לתשומת לב פחותה. יצירתו מגוונת בנושאיה ובסגנונה. ב-1983 קיבל את פרס נובל לספרות. אדם יוצר רוע, הוא אמר, כשם שדבורה יוצרת דבש.
