O Tribunal Europeo de Xustiza (en inglés : European Court of Justice, ECJ, formalmente chamado Tribunal da Comunidade Europea), é a máis alta institución xudicial da Unión Europea (UE) segundo o dereito da Unión Europea.

Función

A súa tarefa é interpretar as leis que se aplican á UE e garantir unha aplicación equilibrada para todos os estados membros.[1]

Historia e estrutura

O instituto foi fundado en 1952 e ten a súa sede na cidade de Luxemburgo. Os seus membros son 27 xuíces, cada un dun estado membro (27 actualmente, en 2022), aínda que adoitan estar formados por mesas de tres, cinco ou trece membros. Esta asemblea está presidida por un presidente. O presidente en servizo desde 2015 é Koen Lenaerts (Bélxica), con mandato previsto até 2024.[2]

O Tribunal de Xustiza Europeo conta co apoio dun xulgado de primeira instancia, o (Court of First Instance), competente para resolver a demanda dunha persoa física ou xurídica, e o Tribunal da Función Pública, que se ocupa dos asuntos presentados por funcionarios de institucións da Unión Europea.
