O cataventos é un libro de literatura infantil escrito por María Victoria Moreno e ilustrado por Carme Peris. No ano 1989 publicouno, en tapa dura, Sotelo Blanco Edicións, como parte da colección "Libros do sol e da lúa". A obra fora distinguida co primeiro premio en contos para nenos do VIII Concurso nacional de contos infantís O Facho.

Segundo Carmen Blanco, o relato é unha parábola da vaidade e da obsesión de poder que lea a un galo fachendoso a converterse en cataventos para estar así por encima dos demais.[1]

“ Cando as nubes durmían era cando se regaban as veigas. Porque as nubes sonche coma as rapazas pequenas, que, cando están durmidiñas, mexan por elas. Por iso cando as nubes dormen comeza a chover e non para até chegar o sol e as esperta. Entón teñen moita vergoña e foxen polos camiños do ceo até que chega o sol e as esperta. ”

O conto xa fora publicado formando parte de Mar adiante, Ediciós do Castro (1973) e de Contos pra nenos, Vigo, Galaxia, 1979, xunto con outras obras de Xoán Babarro, Paco Martín e Dora Vázquez. En 1989 foi publicado en catalán por Publicacións Abadía Monserrat, Barcelona. En 2017 reeditouno Urco Editora, con ilustracións de Lara Torres Rodríguez[2] e foi distribuído nunha promoción especial, o 17 de maio de 2018, Día das Letras Galegas, polo xornal Atlántico Diario.

Argumento

Don Pío, un galo moi presumido que manda en todas as galiñas do curral, ponse sempre no alto do poleiro. A Pombapitiña, que é nova alí e non coñece os costumes, brinca ao pau máis alto do galiñeiro. As Teixaspitiñas depenana, póñenlle as plumas brancas a don Pío e axúdano a subir ao tellado, onde se vai convertendo nun catavento que chora.
