Heurística

A heurística[1] é unha forma de traballar para resolver os problemas, aprender, ou facer descubrimentos que usa métodos prácticos, que non garante unha solución ideal ou perfecta, aínda que suficiente para os obxectivos inmediatos. Deste xeito é posible obter resultados aceptables nun tempo máis curto, e neste sentido pode ser considerado como atallo simplificador. Son exemplos deste método as estimacións fundamentadas, aproximacións, opinións intuitivas, o sentido común e a categorización.

A heurística é un trazo característico do ser humano. Dende este punto de vista, pode ser descrito como a arte e a ciencia do descubrimento e a invención, ou de resolver problemas a través da creatividade e o pensamento lateral ou pensamento diverxente.

A etimoloxía de "heurística" é a mesma que a da palabra eureka!, a exclamación que é atribuída a Arquímedes nun episodio tan famoso como apócrifo. A palabra "heurística" aparece en máis dunha categoría gramatical. Cando se usa como un substantivo, que identifica a arte ou a ciencia de descubrimento e unha disciplina que pode ser investigado formalmente. Cando aparece como un adxectivo, refírese a máis cousas específicas, tales como estratexias heurísticas, regras heurísticas ou siloxismos e conclusións heurísticas. É evidente que estes dous usos están intimamente relacionados, xa que a heurística é xeralmente proposta de estratexias heurísticas que guía o descubrimento.

Matemáticas

En matemáticas, a heurística existe dende a antiga Grecia. Porén, a formalización e o alto grao de rigor en matemáticas restoulle importancia ó estudo do descubrimento, considerándoo de interese para a psicoloxía. Aínda que existe o campo da teoría da demostración, isto non ten nada que ver con atopar patróns de demostración ou regras para atopar as probas de teoremas.
