A década de 1890 foi o período de tempo que transcorreu dende o 1 de xaneiro de 1890 até o 31 de decembro de 1899. Forma parte da época cultural máis coñecida como fin de siècle (en francés "fin de século"), ou Belle Époque. En lingua inglesa tamén se lle chamou posteriormente como Gay Nineties ou Naughty Nineties,[1] especialmente no Reino Unido, referíndose á relaxación de moral e costumes que acompañaron os movementos artísticos e filosóficos en Europa como o decadentismo. Nos Estados Unidos considérase parte da "Gilded Age", seguindo o termo de Mark Twain, quen destacou a proliferación de novas fontes de riqueza e un aumento da criminalidade, e relaciónase coa forte depresión económica que xurdiu co Pánico de 1893 e o comezo das revoltas obreiras. No ámbita da moda coñécese como a "década malva" por mor da paixón que houbo pola tinguidura desta cor fabricada por primeira vez por William Henry Perkin.[2] O 17 de xuño de 2015 aínda había 2 persoas vivas que naceran durante a década de 1890.
