Maja Wasander

Ester Hjelt.

Ester Maria Hjelt, kirjailijanimeltään Maja Wasander (23. marraskuuta 1885 Vaasa – 29. tammikuuta 1960[1] Helsinki), oli suomenruotsalainen psykologi ja nuortenkirjailija.

Henkilöhistoria

Hjeltin isä oli professori Hjalmar Hjelt ja äiti Hedvig Forsblom. Hänellä oli ottolapsi Ingmar. Hjelt tuli ylioppilaaksi 1904 ja valmistui filosofian maisteriksi 1910.[2] Filosofian lisensiaatiksi hän valmistui Åbo Akademista 1930 ja väitteli 1948.[1] Hän opiskeli psykologiaa muun muassa Saksassa, ja hän oli merkittävä soveltavan psykologian pioneeri Suomessa.[3] Hjelt työskenteli 1922–1927 työntekijöiden valintatestejä suorittaneessa Valtionrautateiden psykoteknillisessä laboratoriossa ja myöhemmin muun muassa Åbo Akademin sovelletun sielutieteen dosenttina vuodesta 1947.[1] Hän toimi myös opettajana ja ammatinvalinnanohjaajana muun muassa Turussa, Inkoossa ja Helsingissä.

Uransa alkuvuosina Hjelt toimi opettajana Porvoossa ja Turussa.[2]
