Elia Garci-Lara Catalá (Valentzia) espainiar asmatzailea izan zen. 1890ean, garbigailu mekaniko bat diseinatu eta patentatu zuen. Haren prozesuak zenbait etapa zituen, 10711 patente zenbakiarekin, historiako lehen garbigailutzat har daitekeena.[1][2][3] Garbitze-sistema integrala edo funtzio anitzeko gailua zen, garbitze-fase guztiak arropa tolestu arte egiteko aukera ematen zuena, eta horrek eskuz garbitzeko prozesua hobetzen zuen.[4] Asmakizuna patentatu arren, ez zen inoiz merkaturatu.[5]

Hainbat makinaz osatutako gailua zen, eta, horri esker, arropa sailkatu, prestatze-garbiketa egin, lixibaz saponifikatu, xaboiarekin garbitu, urberritu, xukatu egiten zen hidro-erauzgailu zentrifugo baten bidez, aire zabalean edo aire beroaren bidez berogailu batek lehortzen zuen, arropa lisatu, prentsatu eta, azkenik, tolesten zen.[1][6][7]
