Ciarán Ahern is an Irish Labour Party politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin South-West constituency since the 2024 general election.[1]

Ahern was a member of South Dublin County Council from June to November 2024.[2] He has worked and lectured in law.

Early life and education

Ahern was born to parents Mary and Maurice grew up in Rathfarnham with his two brothers.[3] He attended St Mary's Boys National School (BNS) and then Coláiste Éanna. He went on to graduate with a double Bachelor of Law and Business (BBL) from University College Dublin in 2007 and a Master of Science (MSc) in Criminal Justice Policy, Human Rights, Criminology, and Corporate Crime from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2009.[4]

Personal life

Ahern married fellow lawyer Maeve O'Rourke in January 2020.[5][6] Ahern had to postpone their honeymoon in order to stand as a Labour candidate in the 2020 Irish general election, which took place that February.[7]

The couple have a son together.[3]
