Κουιρίνος

Στη ρωμαϊκή μυθολογία ο Κουιρίνος (Λατινικά: Quirinus, Αρχαία: Κυρῖνος) ήταν πρώιμος θεός του Ρωμαϊκού κράτους. Το όνομα Κουιρίνος ήταν επίσης ένα από τα επίθετα του Ιανού, ως Janus Quirinus.[1]

Ιστορία

Ο Κουιρίνος ήταν πιθανότατα αρχικά θεός των Σαβινών. Οι Σαβίνοι είχαν οικισμό κοντά στην τελική τοποθεσία της Ρώμης, και ανέγειραν βωμό του Κουιρίνου στον Κυρίνιο λόφο (Collis Quirinalis), έναν από τους Επτά Λόφους της Ρώμης. Όταν οι Ρωμαίοι εγκαταστάθηκαν στην περιοχή, απορρόφησαν την λατρεία του Κουιρίνου στο δικό τους πρώιμο δογματικό σύστημα -πριν από την άμεση επίδραση από τους Έλληνες- και θεωρήθηκε ως ο θεοποιημένος Ρωμύλος. Σύντομα έγινε σημαντικός θεός της Ρωμαϊκής πολιτείας, και συμπεριελήφθη στους πρωϊμότερους προδρόμους της Καπιτωλιανής Τριάδας, μαζί με τον Μαρς (θεό της γεωργίας την εποχή εκείνη) και τον Γιούπιτερ.[2]

Στη μεταγενέστερη εποχή ωστόσο, ο Κουιρίνος έγινε λιγότερο σημαντικός, παραχωρώντας τη θέση του στην μετέπειτα, περισσότερο γνωστή Καπιτωλιανή Τριάδα (η Γιούνο και η Μινέρβα πήραν τη θέση αυτού και του Μαρς). Στο τέλος λατρευόταν σχεδόν αποκλειστικά από τον ιερέα του, τον Φλάμεν Κουιρινάλις, που παρέμενε ωστόσο ένας από τους πατρίκιους φλάμινες μαϊόρες, "οι μεγάλοι ιερείς", οι οποίοι προηγούνταν του Pontifex Maximus.[3]

Απεικόνιση

Στην πρώιμη Ρωμαϊκή τέχνη απεικονιζόταν ως γενειοφόρος άνδρας με θρησκευτική και στρατιωτική ενδυμασία. Στα μεταγενέστερα Ρωμαϊκά δογματικά συστήματα δεν απεικονίστηκε σχεδόν ποτέ. Συχνά επίσης συνδεόταν με τη μυρτιά.

Εορτές

Η εορτή του ήταν τα Κουιρινάλια, τα οποία ελάμβαναν χώρα στις 17 Φεβρουαρίου.
